The Basics Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Opens in Leesburg

A demonstration and open house will follow a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11for the grand opening of The Basics Gracie Jiu-Jitsu located at 525A East Market Street in the Bellewood Commons center. Leesburg Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd will officiate, with the ribbon cutting commencing at 11 a.m.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was developed and implemented by the Gracie Family over three generations and is considered by some to be the most effective and humane self-defense system ever created.

The school follows the legacy and vision of Grand Master Helio Gracie, who created a self-defense style based on leverage and natural body movements that can be enjoyed by all ages.

“No matter how out of shape, weak or old you consider yourself, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is for you”, said Owner Marco Moreno, who is a brown belt under Relson Gracie and a certified head instructor. The children’s program, “Gracie Bullyproof”, is available for ages 4 to 14.

“The techniques are less violent. We don’t teach the kids to kick or punch, we teach ways to achieve a dominant position and control to restrain the bully and negotiate from there."

For adults, the “Gracie Combatives” program provides the skills to master the basic techniques used most often and with greater success in self-defense scenarios.

“There is no experience necessary to participate in any class, but the most amazing part is the structure and the teaching methodologies perfected by the Gracie family," Moreno said. "We guarantee that anybody can execute the techniques perfectly."

Saturday's grand opening celebration will include live Jiu-Jitsu demonstration. A free 10-day trial period and introductory pricing are currently offered for new students.
