UPDATE: The Dance King Studio 'Steps' Into Leesburg

The grand opening, which was originally scheduled for this week, has been moved to Thursday, March 1.

(UPDATED on 2/17/12 at 3 p.m.)

The opening of a new Leesburg dance studio has been pushed back to March 1 due to a few minor speedbumps, said Studio Owner and Instructor Adam King.

Mayor Kristen Umstattd will officiate a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening, which King invites the entire community to attend.

The Dance King Studio, located at 26 W. Market Street, will be open three nights a week where guests will be able to learn dances such as the Argentine Tango, Salsa and Swing.

King said he wanted his studio to revolve specifically around these three dances, which always bring the dance floor alive.

“It’s a recreational activity, exercise and social all in one,” King said, regarding the dances he’ll teach once he officially opens his doors. He’ll also teach ballroom, a more competitive style of dance.

On Feb. 3, during Leesburg's First Friday, King provided a mini preview of what his new social dance studio will have to offer.

King said his goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor and each class will include step by step instructions before the actual dance begins.

To make it more interesting, each night will be themed, King said. The Salsa, or Bachata, will be taught on Thursday while the Tango will take place on Friday. Dancing Through the Decades will take place on Saturday, which is more of a social night that will celebrate the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

“A lot of times people are intimidated to get out and dance,” King said, encouraging both singles and couples to attend. “I think a three month window is enough time to get comfortable.”

King said he’s been teaching dance lessons for a little over ten years. He has owned studios in Arlington and Reston and is happy to be in Leesburg.

“I love Leesburg,” King said. “From Arlington to Leesburg it has been a complete 180, but in a good way. Leesburg’s the perfect balance and it feels like home.”
