The Wine Kitchen

In this week's edition of Getting Out in Leesburg, I find my new Tuesday hangout.

I'm a big fan of locally-sourced and organic food, and I especially love when restaurants incorporate these items into their menu. Several restaurants in Leesburg are starting to do this, including .

In addition to offering a selection of delicious Virginia wines, The Wine Kitchen has partnered with local farms and other businesses to offer fresh, local food. Their desserts come from Sweetz bakery, and you can find a variety of seasonal menu items from Ayrshire Farm, Tuscarora Co-Op, and Martin's Angus beef, among other places.

The Wine Kitchen keeps their menu small and thoughtful, but switch things up with a daily lunch special. For only $8, you can get specials that include such delicious offerings as Salad Nicoise of fresh seared tuna, green beans, hard boiled eggs, olives and local tomatoes over greens; sauteed shrimp and seared pork belly over a summer succotash with a side of corn bread; or Local tomato stuffed with crab and scallops with vegetable cous cous.

My favorite dish to get when I'm there is definitely the Parisian roasted garlic gnocchi. It's simultaneously light and filling. The Wine Kitchen doesn't serve your typical family restaurant-style gargantuan servings, instead preferring to give you just enough of the rich, delicious entree to keep you satisfied.

However, my new Wine Kitchen obsession is their Tuesday night special: $9 flight night. I went there this past Tuesday with a friend for a much needed post-earthquake drink. Not only can you try a variety of wines for just $9 (flights are usually anywhere from $9-$15), but you can also sample some delicious appetizers from their Pantry Snacks menu.

From 3-6, you can get a variety of delicious snacks for just $4. This week, we shared the fondue, but next time I'm planning on trying out the lemon ricotta balls. Best of all, these snacks aren't just available on Flight Night; you can get them Tuesday-Friday.

There's a reason that The Wine Kitchen has been on ever since it opened: they offer excellent, creative food and wine in an enjoyable atmosphere. For those of you who have never tried The Wine Kitchen, I can't recommend it enough. It's a gem in Downtown Leesburg.
