“Pie in the Face” Relay for Life Fundraiser This Friday

On Friday, May 4, eight brave souls will take a “pie in the face” to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Western Loudoun Relay for Life. The pie-throwing will take place at 5:30 p.m. on the Town Green in front of the . 

This year’s eight volunteers are:

• Vice Mayor Kevin Wright
• Council Member Marty Martinez
• Town Manager John Wells (pictured with Kelly Burk in 2010)
• Department of Plan Review Director Bill Ackman
• Technology and Communications Committee Chair JB Anderson
• Heritage High School Athletic Director Ron Petrella
• Leesburg’s Director of Finance Norm Butts, 
• Utility Maintenance Manager John Creamer

The Town of Leesburg's Relay for Life team, Government Steps, is looking for bidders to throw a pie in the face of one of these brave volunteers. The bidding begins at $50 and the highest bidder for each gets the privilege of throwing the pie. Bidding is open through the day of the event. All donations collected from the “Pie in the Face” event will go directly to the American Cancer Society's Western Loudoun Relay for Life, an annual American Cancer Society fund raising event which began in 1985.

It is now a worldwide movement to end cancer, with 4,960 events across America that raised a total of $420 million dollars in 2008. These funds help the American Cancer Society in their mission of eliminating cancer as a major health concern.

This year's Western Loudoun Relay for Life will be held at Heritage High School in Leesburg, beginning on Saturday, June 2, with the "Survivors Lap" at 6 p.m. and continuing through Sunday, June 3, at 6 a.m. Cancer Survivors are invited to attend a Survivor Dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Visit Western Loudoun Relay for Life.
