Bike to Work Day Set for May 18

The W&OD Trail has made the annual event popular in Loudoun County.

Loudoun County commuters are encouraged to participate in the 2012 Bike to Work Day event set for Friday, May 18.

The county has planned two Bike to Work Day “pit stops,” where participants will find refreshments, and receive prizes and giveaways. Local stops will be located along the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail, rain or shine at:

• Leesburg at Raflo Park on Harrison Street, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; and

• Sterling at the trail entrance to Orbital Sciences Corporation, just east of Route 28, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Bike to Work Day celebrates a clean, healthy way to reach work. It is coordinated by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

Last year, about 400 bicyclists visited pit stops in Leesburg and Sterling. Region-wide, nearly 11,000 participants.
