Grab & Go Family Planner

Five things to mark on your calendar and enjoy this week

If you've had a long week and you're looking for something fun to do as a family then you've come to the right place. Below is a list of five things to do in and around the area this week, the furthest being in Chantilly.

The best part this week's Grab & Go is that many of the events are free or low in price. So pack everyone into the car and decide where you'd like to go. This week's options include getting wet in the Lansdowne fountains, a science day at the Udvar Space Museum, a prince and princess parade at Morven Park, an old school baseball game at the Oatlands Plantation or craft activities for Father's Day. While you're there make sure to take some photos and share them with us or tell us what you thought of the event.
When/Where: From 9 am to 9 pm daily at 19307 Promenade Dr.

Why Go: Let the kids splash and play in the Lansdowne Fountain. This popular, low-key destination is perfect for hot days. Dress your kids in swimsuits, bring towels and sit back while watching them have a good time.

Price: Free

Super Science Saturdays

When/Where: Sunday, June 12 from 1 to 3 pm at , located at 17263 Southern Planter Ln, in Leesburg.

Why Go: Princes and Princesses, your carriage awaits you! Be sure to take a photo of your prince, princess, or royal coachman in the Caleche, a carriage used by Princess Grace in the movie The Swan. Children will craft their own crowns, scepters, and carriage horns to be used in a parade to the mansion, followed by sweet treats on the portico. Royal costumes encouraged.

Price: $12/child; $3/adult.  Pre-registration required at  www.princessparade.eventbrite.com.

When/Where: Sunday, June 12 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Oatlands Plantation, located at 20850 Oatlands Plantation Ln, in Leesburg.

Why Go: Experience base ball in a new and old way! The Loudoun Preservation Society will host a unique, family-friendly event at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg. Three teams from the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball League will play a doubleheader, following the rules and customs of the 1860s. Gloves and helmets are not worn and catching gear is not used. Uniforms and equipment are authentic replicas of the mid-1860s.  There were no stadiums or bleachers back then. The game was played in an open area, usually a field. So come out and enjoy an all time American favorite with your family.

Price: Admission to Base Ball Day is $20 per car, motorcycle, van, truck or RV. Admission is $50 per bus.

When/Where: Saturday, June 11 from 10 am to noon and Sunday June 12 from 1 to 3 pm at Michaels Craft Store, located at , in Leesburg.

Why Go: Bring the kids to decorate a picture frame on Saturday or design a tie or t-shirt on Sunday just in time for Father's Day. A handmade gift is a great idea for dad's special day. The event is available to kids ages three and up, while supplies last.

Price: Purchase of frame, tie or t-shirt
