Leesburg Bicyclist Victim in Ashburn Hit and Run

An Ashburn man who works in Leesburg was charged with reckless driving felony hit and run.

A Leesburg bicyclist was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with series injuries following a hit-and-run accident in Ashburn Sunday morning, according to the Virginia State Police. Officers charged an Ashburn man in the case.

State Trooper C.J. Ihara responded to reports of a hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist at the intersection of Ashburn Village Boulevard and Gala Circle shortly before 10 a.m. March 3. John M. Washington, 56, of Leesburg, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, according to a VSP report.

Witnesses provided information about the vehicle that fled the scene that investigators used to identify the owner.

Officer Ihara took the suspect, Shayne W. Miller-Westfield, 22, of Ashburn, into custody at his place of employment in Leesburg without incident. Police charged Miller-Westfield with one count of reckless driving and one felony count of hit and run.
