The annual observance will take place in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Leesburg’s annual Memorial Day Observance will take place at the Loudoun County Courthouse on Monday, May 28.

The Town’s annual Memorial Day Observance, with the laying of wreaths at each of the war memorials, honors all of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have served in defense of our country. Veterans, active duty military, their families and all members of the public are invited to participate, which will feature patriotic music, military re-enactors representing many of the nation’s past conflicts, and a traditional rifle salute.

This year’s featured speaker will be Major General Charles E. Williams, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Retired). Williams is a 29-year United States Army veteran who served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, ferrying engineers under enemy fire to repair roads or install wells. He currently resides in Potomac Falls and is the President & CEO of Williams Innovative Strategies, LLC. Other special guests attending the ceremony will include Leesburg VFW Post #1177, American Legion Post #34, and local musicians from area high schools.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse. Downtown Leesburg will have road closures in effect from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., including Market Street from Church to Wirt streets and King Street from Loudoun to North streets.

Event guests are encouraged to park in the Leesburg Town Hall Parking Garage, accessible from Loudoun Street. Additional on-street parking will be available for ceremony attendees with special needs.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Loudoun County Senior Center, which is located at 102 North Street NW. Contact the Town of Leesburg’s Park and Recreation Department at 703-777-1368.
