My Child's Closet to Host Fall Consignment Sale

The two day event is scheduled to take place at the Douglass Community Center, in Leesburg, and will feature close to 20,000 items

My Child’s Closet will hold a fall consignment sale beginning this Saturday at the Douglass Community Center, in Leesburg.

Owner Kimberlee Sams said the two day event will feature a number of seasonal items for parents who are looking for a great deal. An estimated 20,000 items will be available for purchase. Sams said that more than 160 consigners are participating in the event who are interested in selling their gently used items at a very reasonable price.

“We give people an opportunity to sell their outgrown or unneeded children’s clothing, toys, accessories and gear and receive up to 65 percent of the proceeds,” Sams said, adding that any remaining items will be donated to a charity. “There will be lots of quality merchandise including some that is brand new, with tags. This is a great opportunity to pick up barely used winter coats, Halloween costumes and outfits for the upcoming holidays.”

Sams said she is excited about the fall venue this year because it offers a lot of room, ample parking, and great visibility from Market Street.

The main event will be held in the gymnasium as well as a partial hallway and class room, she said.  All of the items will be fall and winter focused.

“This will be our third sale as the new owners of the business,” Sams said, in regards to both her and her husband, Chris. Sams said a major reason they bought it was because she had enjoyed volunteered with other sales in the past.

“It’s just nice to see all of the stuff and all the great deals,” Sams said. “We’re open to the public for shopping so anyone can stop by and get great deals on high quality merchandise.”

The consignment sale will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 am to 5 pm. A half-off sale will take place on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 8 am to noon. That evening, Sams said shoppers will be invited to a one hour charity dollar dash beginning at 4 p.m. Anything under $19.99 will sell for $1 while items marked above $20 will be sold at 75 percent off.

Both cash and personal checks will be accepted for purchases and it is recommended that you bring a laundry basket or a large shopping bag to hold your selections while you shop. There is no charge to attend to the sale, Sams said, unless you plan on purchasing something.

Sams also mentioned that volunteer opportunities are available. Anyone who works a three hour shift will be invited to shop in an exclusive pre-sale on Friday, Sept. 30, beginning at 8 p.m.

“It’s fun working with the other volunteers and getting to know new people,” Sams said. “Most of the volunteers are moms or dads that have kids in this area so there is a lot to talk about and it’s a lot of fun.”
