Nicole Wittmann Named Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney

Wittmann will fill the vacancy made by the departure of Jim Fisher.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman has named Nicole Whittman as Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, filling the vacancy made by the departure of Jim Fisher. Fisher was appointed as the interim Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fauquier County in July 2011 before being elected to the seat in November.

“Ms. Wittmann brings a broad base of trial experience and has consistently been one of our top trial attorneys, always willing to step in and take on difficult cases,” Plowman said.  “I’m excited to have her accept this role and help lead this office as she always has done, by example.”

Wittmann has served in the Loudoun Office for the past seven years, overseeing the Victim and Witness Assistance Program and as the lead attorney in charge of sex crimes and child abuse cases.

Prior to joining the Loudoun Office, Wittmann served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Arlington County for over seven years and as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Sarasota Florida for two years.

Most notably, Wittmann served as the lead attorney in the recent trials of Commonwealth v Stephen Combs-LaFleurCommonwealth v David Cavalieri, and Commonwealth v Mark Haldeman, as well as numerous others during her tenure in Loudoun.

“I’m very much looking forward continuing to serve this community in this new role,” Wittmann said.  “My legal career has been devoted to prosecuting crime and serving victims and I’m grateful for the opportunities this new position brings.”
