Time to celebrate green in Purcellville.

The sun is predicted to shine on Saturday's Paint the Town Green celebration in Purcellville, with added attractions – rain barrel workshop and farmers market.

Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., the third annual Painting Purcellville Green day takes over Town Hall (130 East Main Street). The free event celebrates Purcellville’s commitment to a clean and healthy environment and a green lifestyle with live entrainment, food, displays, sustainable crafts and wares and demonstrations. For the youngsters, there’s a special activity to learn about solar energy, reusable water bottles, tree planting, green home maintenance, recycling and gardening. At the same time and place is the Loudon Soil and Water Conservation District rain barrel workshop – how to capture rain water for watering lawns and plants, washing cars and other outdoor equipment – without depleting the town’s supply of fresh, treated water from its wells and reservoir.  Pre-registration is requested and registration forms are on the town’s town’s website. The rain barrels are available to town residents only.

A make-your-own rain barrel kit can be had for $52.50, and a pre-assembled rain barrel for $68.25. The town offers a rebate of $25 dollars for the purchase of one rain barrel per household for town residents only. For more information on rain barrels and the workshop, contact Norm Hutchison.

And just to round the day out, the weekly farmers market will be holding court in the east parking lot of Town Hall as well, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. So drop in to Town Hall Saturday morning, learn some “green” tricks, meet neighbors, and go home feeling green. In a good way, of course.
