Two Men Charged, Juvenile Charges Pending for Leesburg Larcenies

An investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles led to the discovery of stolen property and arrests.

Investigators last week arrested and charged two Leesburg men following a larceny investigation, according to information released today by the Leesburg Police Department. Charges also are pending against a 16-year-old male from Leesburg.

Officers on June 3 began investigating a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles in the Woodlea Manor, Greenway Farms and Country Club communities. The reported stolen items included satellite radios, GPS devices, wallets, credit cards, checkbooks, sunglasses and money, all items investigators believe to be “opportunistic targets … that could be quickly turned into cash,” according to a Leesburg Police press release.

Investigators learned that some of the credit cards had been used at local stores, leading detectives to obtain a search warrant for a residence on the 1200 block of Hawling Place SW. During the search, detectives found multiple items deemed to have been stolen, according to the press release.

Subsequently, investigators arrested James Thomas Cannaday, 18, and Anthony Vincent Tangorra, 18, and charged both men with larceny with the intent to sell. Cannaday remains at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a $17,500 bond, while Tangorra remains at the jail without bond, according to the release.

In the release, the LPD reminded residents that leaving personal property in plain view in an unlocked vehicle creates a “crime of opportunity” that is easily corrected by keeping vehicles locked and removing or hiding personal items inside the vehicle.

Residents also should take pictures and record serial numbers of electronics in case they are stolen so law enforcement can return recovered property to its owners.
