Loudoun Democrats Pick New Leadership for Coming Year

Committee aims to puts more Democrats in office representing Loudoun.

Democrats have had a few rough years at the local level. The currently have no representation on the Loudoun Board of Supervisors. Just one candidate endorsed by the Loudoun County Democratic Committee sits on the current school board. And of the nearly one dozen state legislators representing parts of the county, just two are Democrats.

So the newly elected leadership of the LCDC, chosen during the biannual reorganization meeting Dec. 7, had a hefty task ahead.

The new leadership is as follows:

  • Chair ­– Valerie Suzdak
  • Vice Chairs – Larry Roeder and Randy Ihara
  • Secretary – Jackie Johnson
  • Treasurer – Kannan Srinivasan

“This is the most diverse group of officers in LCDC history,” Suzdak said in an LCDC press release. “And the opportunity to energize Loudoun’s growing constituencies is in our grasp. If we reach for it, we will turn Loudoun as blue as Fairfax, and this leadership team is committed to making that a reality.”

Suzdak served as LCDC secretary for most of 2013, and previously served as vice chair of the Loudoun County Young Democrats. Ihara has served as the Dulles District chair and as a Vice Chair of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee. Roeder ran for Dulles District Supervisor in 2011, and worked in the U.S. State Department for 35. Johnson has served in various ministries in McLean Bible Church. Srinivasan is a CPA and treasurer of Capital IIT – an alumni association of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for Greater Washington DC.
