LTE: A Leesburg Republican Explains Support for Joe May

Virginia's 33rd Senate District prepares for three-way race to replace Herring.

I am a Republican, and strongly believe our party needs to support candidates like Delegate Joe May, the one conservative candidate with the experience and standing to beat the Democrats in the Special Election to replace Senator Mark Herring. As pointed out in a Dec. 8 Washington Post editorial, Joe May is one of the effective, experienced and more moderate Virginia Republicans that party leadership has recently shut out from its nomination process. Still, he deserves our Republican vote, running as in Independent in this race.

With Joe’s leadership, Virginia has cut $7 billion from the state budget since 2007, and has maintained a “AAA” credit rating, one of only 12 states to do so. For his leadership in keeping the state fiscally responsible, Joe received an A+ rating from the Chamber of Commerce. Joe also received a 100 percent rating from the Family Foundation for supporting family values.

I support commonsense conservatives like Joe May. Due to small turnout, every vote really does count – so please get out and vote for May in this Special Election for our 33rd district Senate seat!
