Leesburg Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration Program

Families, friends and community organizations from all over LoudounCounty will come together on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at the Old Loudoun County Courthouse lawn for the twenty- first (21st) Annual March and Celebrationhonoring the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.(MLK).  The theme of this year’s celebration is “Moving forward with the Dream for All” focusing on the dream ofachieving racial equality and harmony in our community and our nation. A program will follow at Douglass Community Center. Thekeynote speaker for the celebration is Deborah L. Parker of Leesburg, Virginia, noted inspirational speaker and author.


Religious and civic organizations and members of the surrounding community are asked to join together or pair up with another organization and display their banners and walk together during the march.  For those who are unable to join the march, there will be special MLK activities and entertainment at the Douglass Community Center from 10:00 to 11:30 am.The program starts at 11:30 am until 1:30 pm


Attendees to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Loudoun celebration areencouraged to bring nonperishable canned goods to participate in a food drive to benefit Loudoun Interfaith Relief. This local charity has a special need for
nonperishable meat products. Drop off areas for the food drive will be at Douglass Community Center from 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
