After the Storm - Safe Cleanup Tips

Kiwi Saw Shop at South King Street in downtown Leesburg is here to help residents with equipment and safety tips on safety, storm cleanup and generator usage.

Sandy has passed our area, leaving behind a trail of damaged trees and power outages. Although the storm has passed, it is still very important to be vigilant and be aware of hazards on your property and the surrounding area.

Carefully inspect the trees on your property for any hanging or cracked branches. Keep a safe distance as limbs could fall at any time. You can use binoculars to check suspect branches while keeping well clear. If you see any damage, contact a licensed and insured tree service company to get help.

If you can safely use power tools, ensure you are wearing a helmet in case of falling branches and safety chaps to protect your legs from chainsaw injuries. Wear strong boots with ankle support and steel toe protection. Know your limitations and don't try to lift excessive weight such as heavy branches etc. Cut them to shorter manageable lengths to lighten the load. Better to make several trips to the curb and save your back!
