Bob Dubé, 84, Retired Fire and Rescue Director

Oliver Robert “Bob” Dubé, 84 passed away on February 21, 2014 at his home in Louisa, Virginia. He was born on March 22, 1929 in Boston, Mass., to Joseph and Doris Dufault Dubé.

Mr. Dubé grew up in Worcester, Mass., and in 1946 at the age of 17, joined the Army and served for 3 years. In 1949 he began work for Fairfax County as a firefighter where he worked for several years before becoming a fire service instructor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In 1964, he was named as the Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Williamsburg, Virginia.

In 1970, he was appointed as the first Fire Marshal and later Director of Fire and Rescue services for Loudoun County Virginia until his retirement in 1987. Following his retirement from the Fire and Rescue Department, Bob worked for several years as a special investigator with the Loudoun County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

During his career in Loudoun he had several major accomplishments including overseeing the expansion of the Loudoun Fire and Rescue services, construction of a central fire and EMS training center and a modernization of the emergency communications center. He was the recipient of numerous awards including the Clark Deener award in 1993, the highest honor for Loudoun Emergency Medical Services, the John Carr award in 2002, the highest honor in Loudoun Fire Services, and was elected to the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Hall of Fame in 2005. He was an honorary member and active volunteer in numerous fire and rescue organizations including Jefferson (Fairfax County VA) VFD, Leesburg (VA) VFD, Sterling (VA) VFD, Aldie (VA) VFD, Sterling (VA) VRS, and the South Berkeley (WV) VFD. 

Bob was generous with his time and volunteered for many years in Loudoun County as a youth sports coach in football, girl’s basketball, and baseball. 

Bob married Dolores Stanford in 1949 in Arlington, Virginia. They were happily married for nearly 65 years. After retirement he enjoyed traveling the country and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Bob is survived by his spouse Dolores of Louisa, Virginia; children Sandra (Robert) Moore of Pasadena, Maryland, Robert (Susan) Dubé of Louisa, Virginia, Jeanette (Dale) McGuire of Emmitsburg, Maryland, Dennis (Marc) Dubé-Friedlander of Aberdeen, Maryland, Jeffrey (Shari) Dubé of Charles Town, West Virginia, his grandchildren Ryan (Alison) Moore, Adam (Zairath) Moore, Angela Dubé, Harley Reed, Tiffany Dubé, Bret Flynn, Colleen Dubé, Dan (Terri) McGuire, Kristina (Josh) Angell, Erin McGuire, Jeremy (Jessi) Dubé, Travis Dubé; his great-grandchildren Lilly Moore, Kellen Moore, Hayden Reed, Jason McGuire, Eric McGuire, Kendra McGuire, Alexis Angell, Wyatt Angell, Neleh Dubé, Ollie Dubé, Teagan Moore; and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at Leesburg Community Church, 835 Lee Avenue, Leesburg Virginia at 11:00 February 27, 2014. A visitation will be held at the same location from 6-8 PM on February 26, 2014. Burial will follow at the Fairfax cemetery in Fairfax, Virginia.
