Obituary: Casper Eugene Mason

A simple man who enjoyed life. That’s how one would describe Casper Eugene Mason; known to his family and friends as “Gene.” Gene passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, while in Winchester Medical Center. Born July 18, 1945, in Loudoun County, VA, he was the proud son of Annie Elizabeth Mason and John Temple Mason Sr. He was married to Joyce Ann Mason.

Gene worked hard as a professional lawn maintenance and landscaper while providing for his family. He found peace and relaxation while driving on country roads and listening to bluegrass music. Gene enjoyed many hobbies, which included fishing, hunting and shooting matches. With his family by his side, he watched whatever western TV show that he could find. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren, sharing in their teasing and playful ways.

Casper Eugene Mason will continue to live on in the memories of the many lives he touched along life’s way. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Joyce Ann Mason; children Annie Lewis (Marcus) of Front Royal, Virginia; Barbara Moreno (Francisco) of Winchester, Virginia; Brenda Nappier (Chris) of Highview, West Virginia; Frances Shinault (John) of Augusta, West Virginia; Casper Mason, Jr. (Danielle) of Toms Brook, Virginia and Gregory Mason (Stacy) of Woodstock, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; brother John  Mason, Jr.; and sisters Carol Pullis and Bertha Redman.
