Algonkian Elementary Evacuated After Electrical Fire

Loudoun Fire Marshal investigating incident that occurred in a computer lab.

An electrical fire in a computer lab at Algonkian Elementary School Tuesday morning caused the administrators to evacuate the building, according to the Loudoun Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

Loudoun County dispatchers received reports of a fire at the school around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters located a small fire in the floor of a room used for instruction on computers and extinguished it.

Crews remained on the scene as the school was ventilated.

The school staff had evacuated the students prior to the arrival of fire and rescue units, which were dispatched from Cascades, Sterling Park, Lansdowne, Leesburg and Fairfax County.

Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard said the students were out of their classrooms for about an hour.
