Ashburn Girl Injured by Student Driver Still in Hospital; Charges Filed

A teenager faces reckless driving for a March 14 crash in which three children playing on a sidewalk in Ashburn were hurt.

Authorities on Tuesday filed a juvenile petition for reckless driving against an Ashburn teenager for a March 14 crash that injured three children playing on a sidewalk in Brambleton, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. A 7-year-old child remains hospitalized.

The driver, 15, possessed a learner’s permit and was taking a driving lesson from a parent shortly before 7 p.m. March 14. According to information released Wednesday by the Sheriff’s Office, as the teen traveled along Morven Woods Court, she accelerated and jumped a curb onto the sidewalk where three children, ages 7, 8 and 10, were playing.

Two children were treated at Inova Loudoun Hospital and released, according to the LCSO. A third, who was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, has not yet been discharged.

The previous information was supplied by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office and, where charges were made, does not indicate a conviction. For questions about this article, email dusty@patch.com.

What are the conditions of the girl still hospitalized?? All other reports say she was in critical condition. Is this still the same? More details on an artical the better.

Criminal charges for reckless? Really? Did she intend to drive over the curb or was this an accident? Wouldn't her Dad be the one charged for giving reckless lessons?
