Crash Causes Serious Injuries Near Leesburg

Single-car wreck Friday afternoon included small engine fire, according to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

A Leesburg man faces serious injuries after a car wreck Friday afternoon near Leesburg, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Near 4:30 p.m. Friday, the driver, 52, was heading westbound on Whites Ferry Road in his 2009 BMW 335i coupe in excess of the speed limit, according to a Sheriff's Office release.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway near Route 15, striking a utility pole.

The car continued for a short distance before crossing the roadway and striking a tree, rolling over and coming to a rest on its side. The BMW's engine compartment then caught fire.

The driver’s injuries were believed to be life threatening and he was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, according to the LCSO. The driver remains hospitalized.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office.
