The driver is dead and a teen passenger was injured in a Thursday morning crash in Lovettsville, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, George M. Newton, 71, of Waterford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

First responders arrived at the scene at 10 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Berlin Turnpike and Householder Road.

According to deputies, Newton appears to have suffered an undetermined medical emergency just before his 2011 Hyundai Genesis left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Live wires covered the vehicle and Virginia Dominion Power responded to the scene.

The cause of death remains under investigation by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
