'East Coast Rapist' Suspect Indicted in Loudoun

Thomas faces three charges stemming from a 2001 attack in Leesburg, each carrying a life sentence if he is convicted

Loudoun County has indicted the man believed to be responsible for a series of rapes along the east coast.

Aaron H. Thomas has been indicted on charges of rape, abduction with intent to defile and forcible sodomy stemming from a 2001 attack in Leesburg.

Each charge carries the possibility of life in prison if Thomas is found guilty.

Loudoun County Circuit Court is expected to issue a Capias warrant for Thomas’ arrest to return him to Virginia for trial. He is currently in Connecticut, where he is in charged with committing an attack in New Haven in 2007.

He has also been charged with six felonies in Prince William County, Va., and faces charges in other local jurisdictions.

“This is a very satisfying time for the law enforcement community after years of intense investigation,” said Jim Plowman, Loudoun County commonwealth’s attorney. “While these investigations continue, we will now concentrate much of our effort on ensuring that Thomas is incapable of preying on further victims.”
