Fire Marshal Determines Cause of Dec. 2 Fire in Broad Run Farms

The accidental fire resulted in an estimated $350,000 in damages.

A fire that destroyed a home in Broad Run Farms late Dec. 2, causing an estimated $350,000 in damages, has been deemed an accident by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal.

The cause was determined to be an electrical short in the attic, according to a report from the Loudoun Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, the Loudoun County Fire-Rescue units responded to a 911 call about a house fire on the 20200 block of Dairy Lane in Broad Run Farms, near Routes 7 and 28. The first units on the scene reported a single-family home fully engulfed in flames.

A rural water supply was established because fire hydrants are not located in the community.

The family of four at the residence was not home at the time of the fire and must find another place to stay. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family with temporary housing.

No one was injured, according to the report.

Units remained on the scene for an extended period of time putting out hot spots and performing salvage and overhaul. The estimated loss of this accidental fire is $350,000. There were no injuries to civilians or public safety personnel.
