The man suspected in robbing
a PNC Bank in Sterling Jan. 2 and a Wells Fargo Bank in Herndon Dec. 27 is in
custody in Fairfax after an investigation that led authorities to Miami.
Jonzel M. Bailey, 22, waived extradition and is being held in Fairfax County related to the Dec. 27 robbery.
In the Loudoun case, a man, now identified as
Bailey, demanded cash from the PNC Bank on the 100 block of Free Court in
Sterling shortly after 9 a.m. Jan. 2. The LCSO shared still shots from
surveillance video with the public.
Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman credited mutual cooperation with Herndon Police Department and numerous tips from the public in helping authorities ID the suspect.
“The sharing of information
with neighboring jurisdictions and quickly relaying the details of the robbery
to the public helped solve this case,” Chapman said. “This is a prime
example of how good working relationships with our partners in law enforcement
and our partners in the community can help solve crime.”
Bailey was charged on Jan. 18 with the Sterling robbery, but he remains held in Fairfax County.
The FBI also assisted with the case.
