‘Homemade Explosive Devices’ Rendered Safe in South Riding

Response to early morning incident results in discovery of explosives, evacuation of neighbors.

Deputies found five “homemade explosive devices” in a home on the 43400 block of Quentin Street in South Riding early Jan. 2 after entering the home in response to a report of a suicide attempt.

Officers were called to the home around 12:41 a.m. Jan. 2 and at some point transported an adult male who had apparently attempted to take his own life to an area hospital, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

While investigating, officers located the explosive devices and called the Loudoun County Bomb Squad to the scene. Residents in two adjacent home were evacuated from their homes for a couple of hours in the early morning, according to the report.

The devices were rendered safe and the scene was cleared around 4 a.m. The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office.
