Leesburg Family Displaced by Tuesday Morning Fire

No one was home when the fire broke out, causing an estimated $50,000 in damages.

A Leesburg family was displaced after a fire caused $50,000 to their Chancellor Street SW home Tuesday morning, according to a report from Loudoun Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

Leesburg fire and rescue personnel responded to a fire alarm at the residence around 10:30 a.m. July 9 and saw smoke when they arrived, according to the report. Once upgraded to a house fire, units from Hamilton, Moorefield and Purcellville also responded to the home on the 900 block of Chancellor Street. No one was home at the time, but a dog and cat were rescued.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire located in the kitchen, according to the report. The fire damage along with smoke damage caused an estimated $50,000 in damages. The Loudoun Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.

The home was equipped with an alarm system that alerted authorities.

Two fire and rescue workers were treated on the scene for minor injuries and taken to a medical facility for further evaluation. No other injuries were reported. The pets were reported in stable condition.

The residents are unable to return immediately to the home and are staying with friends, according to the Loudoun Fire-Rescue.
