A 21-year-old Leesburg man is dead and two passengers injured after an early morning crash Sunday in Rosslyn near the Key Bridge, according to Arlington County Police Department officials.
Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said that the car, a 2008 BMW M5, was traveling at about 80 to 90 miles per hour just before 5 a.m. in the area just past the Key Bridge crossing into Rosslyn.
“The driver struck a curb and the car rolled forward four to five times,” Sternbeck said. “The impact caused the vehicle’s roof to become dislodged.”
The car came to a rest at Lee Highway and Fort Myer Drive, Sterneck said.
Sternbeck said that the driver was from Leesburg.
After impact, the 21-year-old driver was found trapped inside the car. Authorities declared him dead on the scene.
The two passengers, both men in their 20s, suffered critical injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, Sternbeck said. One of the passengers was ejected from the car and found unconscious. The second passenger was able to make it out of the car.
Sterneck said that none of the names of the injured are being released at this time, pending notification to family members.
The onramp to Lee Highway was closed for six hours after the crash while police investigated, Sternbeck said. At this time, police do not know whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
