Leesburg Police Department Releases 2011 Annual Report

The report highlights department operations and key law enforcement events including traffic and workload statistics.

The Department has released its 2011 Annual Report. It highlights department operations and key law enforcement events in 2011 as well crime, traffic and workload statistics, which include the following:

· Calls for service and officer generated proactive actions increased by 12 percent.

· Reportable crashes increased in 2011. There were 450 in 2011 compared to 352 in 2010. The number of injury crashes slightly increased from 117 in 2010 to 124 in 2011. The major cause of crashes continues to be distracted driving.

· Violent crime decreased by 5.4 percent.

· Part I crime (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder , robbery arson , burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft) increased by 11.9 percent from 2010 levels. The major cause of the Part I crime increase was larceny; with the bulk of the increase being shoplifting and larceny from autos and most involving unlocked vehicles.
