A 72-year-old woman is in stable condition after suffering severe injuries in a single-car wreck on Route 7 Tuesday morning, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The drive, a 15-year-old girl, suffered non-life threatening injuries and she was treated and released at an area hospital. She has been charged with reckless driving.

At 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the area of Route 7 and Ivandale Road in Hamilton.

According to a Sheriff's Office release, the Lovettsville teen was driving a 2010 Ford Escape when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail.

"A portion of the guardrail impacted the passenger’s side door and made entry into the cabin area, striking the front seat passenger and driver," according to the release. "The passenger, a 72-year-old Lovettsville woman, sustained serious injuries."

The woman was airlifted to INOVA Fairfax Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. The driver was taken to INOVA Cornwall Hospital and has since been released.

Route 7 westbound was closed for more than 90 minutes while emergency crews assisted with the collision, according to the Sheriff's Office. Route 7 eastbound was down to one lane for a period of time.
