Phony Benjamins: Man Sought for Passing Fake $100 Bills at Leesburg Outlets

The suspect made purchases at several stores and was caught on surveillance video.

Several stores at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlet Mall discovered phony money in their registers Saturday and the Leesburg Police Department have zeroed in on a single suspect caught on surveillance video.

In each case, the suspect made a small purchase at a store and paid with what turned out to be a counterfeit $100 bill, according to a police report. By making small purchases, the suspect maximized the change he received, according to the report.

Bills were passed at Wilson’s Leather, Claire’s, Stride Rite Keds Sperry and L’eggs Hanes Bali Playtex. The suspect attempted to pass another bill at the Converse Store, but employees declined to accept the bill.
