Police: Fuel Spill in Dump Truck Wreck

HazMat response to Ashburn incident, according to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Roads were closed for several hours and a dump truck driver has been charged with reckless driving after an afternoon accident led to a gasoline spill and a HazMat response, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the accident scene near the intersection between Ryan Road and Willington Square near 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"The dump truck was attempting to go east on Ryan Road from Willington Square and pulled into the path of two oncoming westbound vehicles," according to a Sheriff's Office release. One vehicle was able to avoid the dump truck. The Ford attempted to avoid the crash but struck the dump truck near the fuel tank."

A spill from the fuel tank led to a response from Loudoun County Fire Rescue and Emergency Management, the Loudoun County Fire Rescue HazMat Response Unit, the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The driver of the dump truck, Geovanni A. Benitez-Giron, 38, of Sterling, was charged with reckless driving.
