Report of Gunman Brings Heavy Police Presence to Dulles Town Center

No shooting has occurred. Police secured the mall as a precaution.

While there was a heavy police presence at the Dulles Town Center on Saturday, the Loudoun County sheriff's office says there was no a shooting at the shopping venue.

Deputies received a report around 1:45 p.m. that there had been a possible shooting at Sterling mall. But no shooting or gunman was seen at the mall.

Investigators learned the caller overheard two females talking about a possible shooting and that they had to leave. The women could not be located and have not contacted law enforcement, according to a Sheriff's Office release.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the mall complex was searched and nothing suspicious was located," the release notes.

A shopper tweeted a photo of police officers in the mall with rifles.
