A 16-year-old was seriously injured Sunday in a parking lot stunt at Broad Run High School, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The boy fell from a mountain board that was being pulled by a car driven by a second 16-year-old. Neither teen was identified by police.

According to a Sheriff's Office release, the rope had been tied to the back of the vehicle and the victim was being pulled through the parking lot when he fell off the board. He was not wearing a helmet.

The victim was taken to Inova Loudoun Hospital, and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with reckless driving.

Plus, a little public humiliation can often times be a really good thing!

Teenagers being teenagers. Park Authority should be focused on creating more recreation facilities for skateboarders, inline skaters, bmx bikers etc. instead of just flat fields for ball sports. Provide these places with a vendor that oversees use and teaches skills with an emphasis on safety and equipment. Many of these youth conduct their play and practice around shopping centers and schools where there are large patches of concrete surface, are unsupervised and then act like teenagers.

Wildermann, maybe you would like to fund all these park improvements. All these things you talk about takes money. You want this, then you fund it.

Wildermann is right !!! My idea would be to black top over one of the ball fields and make it a recreation facility for skaters and bikers . There needs to be an area for our teens to play and practice other than a parking lot where there will be trouble!! Yes this takes money but why just ball fields and playgrounds ?

@ John Strother, Did you see the part where I introduced the word vendor? The vendor is for profit and sells equipment, clothing & gear, snacks, also gives lessons for a fee, sponsors tournaments with fees, and so on. They are an ancillary business that leases the sight from the park authority. Some jobs are created, taxes collected and over time the place pays for itself. The NOVA Regional Park Authority operates water themed wave parks in a similar fashion. A number of county park authorities operate golf courses and rec centers in this fashion. The NPS operates concessions with vendors all over the DC region. Know what your talking about before railing against expanding into a different area of recreational opportunity for youth. Park planners need to get out of their linear pattern of thinking that seemingly is focused on rectangular fields and have a more balanced approach that supports the ever broadening and diversifying categories of recreational and sporting opportunities.
