Reported ‘Gunfire’ at Leesburg Business Turns Out to Be False Alarm

Loudoun Street SE was temporarily shutdown while police investigated

After receiving multiple reports of possible gunshots coming from a business downtown, officers with the Leesburg Police Department established a secure perimeter and interrogated witnesses shortly after 11 a.m. Friday morning.

A portion of Loudoun Street SE near the 200 block was closed during the investigation. A police report indicated that police had received conflicting reports about the cause of the loud noises.

In the end, officers determined the sounds were not gunfire, but were the result of a truck backfiring several times, according to the report.
