Suspect Drives Off Twice, But Can't Outrun Charges

A driver spotted driving on the wrong side of the road was eventually arrested after a lengthy pursuit that included three traffic stops, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Rex R. Bowens Jr., 36, of Frederick, Maryland, is charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, reckless driving, eluding police and driving without a license. 

At 4:24 a.m. April 25, a deputy observed a car heading east in the westbound lanes of the Route 7 Bypass. Identified by police as Bowens, the driver pulled over after the deputy initiated a traffic stop.

But, he then made a U-turn and stopped on the opposite shoulder of the road. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the car drove away. The deputy followed the car and it again stopped, but, as the deputy performed the traffic stop, Bowens allegedly again sped off. 

At this point, the deputy allegedly observed Bowens throw something from the vehicle that was later determined to be suspected marijuana. The driver stopped again and was taken into custody.

Bowens was denied bond and is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
