Three Charged in Sterling Robberies; K9 Struck During Search

A man was also arrested for DUI as officers canvassed the area; the dog was not seriously injured.

An adult male and two teens, all from Prince William County, were taken into custody following reports of armed robberies early Saturday morning in Sterling. Authorities continue to seek a fourth juvenile.

A male first reported a gunpoint robbery by black males as he exited his vehicle along Sanderson Drive in Sterling, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. A backpack, a laptop a smart phone and a wallet were allegedly taken during that robbery.

Then, around 1:40 a.m., deputies responded to a second robbery and received information about a suspect vehicle. During that incident, two victims reported that two males exited a vehicle as the walked along Shaw Road, brandished a gun and reportedly took the victims’ smart phones.

An officer spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, according to the report. The suspects fled from the car near Falke Plaza.

Deputies established a perimeter and canvassed the area. One suspect was immediately taken into custody, a second was found near Shaw Road and a K9 unit located a third suspect, according to the report. A fourth suspect, identified as a juvenile, was not located.

“The quick work of the deputies and the canine unit made sure this brief crime spree ended without anyone getting hurt,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman. “We would also like to thank our partners in law enforcement, the Herndon Police Department, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police, the Fairfax County Police Department, the Maryland State Police Department and the U.S. Park Police, who all provided support during the search,” Chapman added.
Investigators learned that the suspects were staying at an area hotel and received consent to search the room, according to the report. Evidence believed to be related to the case was recovered in the room along with two firearms.

Officers charged Idris Zikria-Showers, 19, of Gainesville, two teens from Manassas, 16 and 15, with three counts of robbery and two counts of use of a firearm during commission of a felony The names of juveniles charged with crimes are generally not provided. Zikria-Showers remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. The two juveniles were being held Saturday at the jail.

During the search for the men, a man who struck a dog with K9 unit was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The dog was not seriously injured.
