UPDATE: Second Driver Dies in Crash on Bypass

Shannon C. Donley, 48, and Philip Green Jr, 27, have died following Wednesday's collision on the Leesburg Bypass.

Update: 

Shannon C. Donley, 48, of Shepherdstown, WV has died following injuries he sustained in the crash that occurred on the Leesburg Bypass on Wednesday, May 2. Family members of Donley notified the Leesburg Police Department regarding his death on May 3.

Philip Green Jr., 27, of Winchester died Wednesday, May 2, following a multiple vehicle accident, which occured on the Leesburg Bypass

Master Police Officer Christopher Tidmore said the Leesburg Police Department received multiple calls shortly after 1 p.m. reporting a car crash on the bypass in the area between the South King Street and the Dulles Greenway entry ramps.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue units responded and officers were dispatched to the scene, he said. Upon their arrival, the two cars involved were located in the eastbound lanes of the bypass.

Green was driving a black 2006 Chevrolet Malibu and was headed westbound on the bypass. His vehicle crossed the grassy median and traveled into the eastbound lanes of the bypass where it struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by a 48-year-old man from Shepherdstown, WV.  

Green's vehicle reportedly flipped over after striking the pick-up truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Tidmore said the driver of the pick-up truck was severely injured. He was flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment of his injuries, where he was listed in critical condition.   

The Leesburg Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team, along with members from the Loudoun County Sheriffs Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, gathered evidence and completed the preliminary investigation. The Leesburg Bypass was completely re-opened at 6:27 p.m.
