Bike and Pedestrian Improvements Planned for Leesburg

Town Manager John Wells provided the Town Council with updates regarding the plan during a work session Monday night.

Bike racks will start appearing at town hall and elsewhere later this summer.

Town Manager John Wells provided a brief update to the Town Council Monday night regarding several efforts to implement a Bike and Pedestrian Plan across Leesburg.   

A bike rack has been ordered for town hall and should arrive within 4-6 weeks. In addition, a bike rack is being added to Georgetown Park. Additional bike racks are being planned throughout the downtown area, he said.

Council members also had a chance to view images of the new bike depot at , which features a bike rack, water fountain, lighting, and air pump. A portable restroom will be installed by the end of this week and a final landscaping and a ribbon cutting are planned for September.

In addition, the Leesburg Downtown Business Association is working on maps and signage to improve the visual link from the W&OD Trail (near South King Street) to downtown businesses.

According to town documents, staff is facilitating this effort with the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. Additional signage may also be considered to link the W&OD Trail with White’s Ferry and the C&O Canal, both of which are major bike routes.
