Delgaudio Censured: Supervisor Stripped of Committees, Budget Control, Aides

Testy board votes after long discussion; the full board will use the Sterling budget to serve the residents of the district.

After dodging criticism for years for his political tactics, Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) was censured Wednesday night by the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

The board took a series of votes near the end of a board meeting that lasted more than six hours. The censure was based on a grand jury report produced following an investigation of allegations of misuse of his county office aides.

On three separate votes, supervisors censured Delgaudio, stripped him of committee assignments as well as appointments to commissions and other boards, and placed the Sterling District budget in the control of the full board. In addition, the board eliminated Delgaudio’s aides from the budget.

Delgaudio attempted to delay the vote by making a motion to create an ad hoc committee to investigate himself; however, he found support from just two supervisors: Janet Clarke (R-Blue Ridge) and Geary Higgins (R-Catoctin). Higgins and Clarke voted to censure Delgaudio and continue to strip him of committee assignments, but opposed the moving control of the Sterling budget and eliminating Delgaudio budget for aides.

Patch will publish a more detailed story Thursday.
