UPDATE: Delgaudio Meeting Canceled

Supervisor wants Eugene Delgaudio removed during investigation of aide’s complaint against him.

UPDATE: Nov. 20 meeting on Delgaudio investigation canceled.

Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott K. York (R-At Large) announced in his latest newsletter that a Nov. 20 meeting scheduled to discuss the investigation of Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) has been canceled. The board has rescheduled its Finance/Government Service & Operations Committee meeting to Nov. 20. Here is the statement from York's newsletter:

"During the November 7 Board Meeting, I announced that the second Business Meeting on November 20 would be cancelled because of the meeting falling on Thanksgiving week.  Due to information received by the County Attorney’s office on the 8th of November, there was consideration of a Board of Supervisors special meeting on the 20th in relation to the Delgaudio investigation.  However, based on advice by the County Attorney’s office we will not be holding a special meeting.

Additionally, we are re-scheduling the Finance/Government Services & Operations Committee originally planned for November 26 to Tuesday, November 20, at 5pm in the Board Room.  The two main topics to be discussed are Staff Aide policies and the proposed County Court complex expansion."

Initial Story:

In light of a special prosecutor's re-examination of an aide’s complaint against Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), Broad Run Supervisor Shawn Williams (R) announced today he plans to request his colleague be restricted during the investigation.

Namely, Williams said in a statement, he plans to call on Delgaudio’s removal from the Finance, Government Services and Operations Committee and the Transportation and Land Use Committee.

“I strongly believe it is incumbent on the Board to act with the highest ethical standards and have no tolerance for those who act with any impropriety,” Williams said in the statement.

At this time, no criminal wrongdoing has been found. Delgaudio’s former aide alleges she performed work in the Sterling supervisor’s office that appeared to be for his re-election campaign as well as his private job with Public Advocate of the United States. Delgaudio has denied the allegation and said the only fundraising he has been doing is for a local youth sports league.

Delgaudio has not yet responded to a Patch request for comment.

Williams’ full statement:

“I have been very concerned about the allegations regarding Supervisor Delgaudio misusing County staff and resources for political purposes. I first learned of the allegations against Supervisor Delgaudio when I read the story in the Washington Post in late September. Working with my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, we initiated an investigation to find out whether County policy was violated at the following business meeting on October 3rd. Since then, that investigation has been superseded by a criminal investigation. The Board’s investigation is on hold because our investigation could interfere with the criminal investigation. The actions the Board can take against an individual member of the Board are limited, but there are some that have been discussed. The Board will be holding a special meeting to address this topic on Tuesday November 20th at 5:30pm. At this meeting, I will push for Supervisor Delgaudio to be removed from his positions on the Finance, Government Services and Operations Committee and the Transportation and Land Use Committee while he is under criminal investigation. I strongly believe it is incumbent on the Board to act with the highest ethical standards and have no tolerance for those who act with any impropriety.”

Joe, Delgaudio admitted, from the dais, that he instructed staff to raise funds for outside organizations. This is not even in dispute. Further, Donna Mateer provided Chairman York with an email that states that she was to spend 50-70% of her time making phone calls to potential donors. Chairman York has had the proof you seek in his possession since March, and failed to provide it to the Commonwealth Attorney until after this story broke. The Arlington CA is looking for violations of the law that meet the threshold of a criminal prosecution. That does not excuse the Board of Supervisors from their responsibility to protect the county from further misuse and liability. The facts of the case demand the Board suspend Eugene Delgauido's committee assignments and district budget immediately.

Joe B, Your words: "I(s) he is guilty of a crime? If so he will not need a budget any longer. Prudent by whose standard; a new advocate hate group who hates the so-called hater more and then cloud(s) ethics and criminal chargers with their lawyer speak. This is a vendetta by the Millers and the Weintraubs it has nothing to do with..." Sorry, but I had to add the right letters within () in order to correct the paragraph written above to an English sentence with verb noun agreement so it was readable. Please describe for all of us online, what your real interest or motive in defending Delgaudio in this case really is rather than trying to sound concerned about points of law.

When Delgaudio was quoted in regards to TSA " It's the federal employee's version of the Gay Bill of Special Rights... That means the next TSA official that gives you an 'enhanced pat down' could be a practicing homosexual secretly getting pleasure from your submission".. Sounds like a guy has deep closeted fascinations with gays, yet, he's the one of the leaders of the anti gay movement.. Let's get the nutjob out of office, and please not let him represent the decent people of Sterling,VA

I am just so happy the GASP (grammar and spelling police) are doing their best to keep us safe and secure Kel. @ Brambleton76 I must admit the gay bill of special rights was a big fat stinko! If there is a e-mail stating Ms. Mateer was to spend 50 to 70% of her time seeking political donations then you have a nail in the coffin.
