First Time Candidate Jim Sisley Seeks Win

Ten-year resident running for one of three spots on the Leesburg Town Council. Elections take place Nov. 6.

Town Council candidate Jim Sisley has been a Leesburg resident since February of 2004.

Since then, he has served a number of roles in the community, including vice-chair of Leesburg's Board of Architectural Review and Leesburg's Economic Development Commission. He is the EDC representative on the Watershed Committee, founding President of Leesburg Crossroads and a founding member of the Leesburg Downtown Business Association, among other positions.

Now, after spending thousands of hours donating his time to the town, Sisley felt it was time to take the next step. He will run against 10 other candidates during the Nov. 6 Town Council election.

“It’s time now for me to seek an elected position. I can have more positive impact as a member of the council,” Sisley said. “The end game is to have a role and decide on the outcomes of government and the only way that you can do that is to have a vote. You have to be on the body, you have to be able to vote on the issues and then you can affect the outcome. That’s what I’m looking to do.”

This is the first time Sisley has ever run for public office, he said. He officially kicked off his campaign back on July 28 in front of Town Hall.

“It was the first time I was explaining myself as a candidate,” Sisley said. “It was very positive but it was a new experience for me “

Since then, campaigning has gone “really well”, Sisley said. If elected, he would like to promote more job creation by increasing the number of employers and businesses within the town. He would also like to focus on spending less money on road maintenance while improving the quality of life. A full list of the issues he would like to focus on can be found here.

“I think it’s been going well,” Sisley said, in regards to his first campaign. “I feel like I’m being positively received. But it’s hard to tell.”

In about a month, Sisley will find out exactly what the voters think. Until then, he will continue to meet with everyone he comes in contact with while listening to their concerns.
