Introducing the Loudoun County School Board, 2012

The chairman and vice-chair of the current School Board were defeated on Nov. 8. Three members of Educate Loudoun, a PAC that favors charter schools and pay for performance for teachers, were elected.

Loudoun County's School Board underwent a major overhaul in Tuesday's general election and will see a complete change in leadership when it convenes for its organizational meeting on Jan. 3, 2012.

Chairman John Stevens (Potomac) lost his seat to Debbie Rose, running from the new Algonkian District, and incumbent vice chair Priscilla Godfrey (Blue Ridge) lost to challenger Jill Turgeon, a second grade teacher endorsed by both the "Educate Loudoun" and "Western Loudoun Schools" PACs.

Educate Loudoun PAC also endorsed Jeff Morse (Dulles), who won almost 60 percent of the vote in a three-way race, and Bill Fox (Leesburg), who edged out incumbent Tom Marshall (Leesburg). Marshall lost by a razor-thin margin of 86 votes in a three-way race decided by 5,938 voters.

Another new PAC, Western Loudoun Schools, which wants to increase accountability in government and control costs, endorsed five winning candidates: Debbie Rose (Algonkian); Eric Hornberger (Ashburn); Turgeon of Blue Ridge, Kevin Kuesters (Broad Run) and Fox (Leesburg). At-large candidate Bob Ohneiser, elected from the current Broad Run District, and Catoctin District candidate Paul Arias, both endorsed by Western Loudoun Schools PAC, did not prevail in their races.

Educate Loudoun also endorsed Chris Souther (Ashburn) and Stevens (Algonkian); both lost.
