Katie Hammler Re-elected As VML Town Section Chair

The town council member will serve another year on VML's Executive Committee following her re-election earlier this week.

Leesburg Town Council member Katie Hammler was unanimously re-elected as the Town Section Chair during the Virginia Municipal League's (VML) annual conference in Williamsburg this week.

Hammler will continue to represent the towns that are on VML’s Executive Committee. Blacksburg Town Council Member Susan Anderson was elected Vice Chair of the Town Section.

Hammler said she is honored to have been re-elected and will hold the position for a second year.

"I really enjoy working with the entire executive committee team to set the direction for the VML," Hammler said. "It's a really effective way to advocate for Leesburg tax-payers because we share so many priorities with other towns around the state and we work effectively to present a unified voice to the entire General Assembly to achieve goals."

Hammler said that there has never been a more important time for towns to work closely with the General Assembly.

"We are seeing increases in unfunded mandates and decreases in state aid to localities, combined with a lack of sustainable funding for priority state services, such as transportation," she said, adding that VML works diligently and professionally to lobby state elected leaders to provide real solutions versus passing on the bills to local town taxpayers.
