Leesburg Receives $5,000 for Baseball Fields, Cages

The Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth League has donated the funds in support of improvements to town baseball assets

The Town of Leesburg now has $5,000 extra to construct new batting cages at Robinson Park, thanks to the Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth League.

The league decided in October to donate the money to Leesburg for cages and field improvements, according to John Gantt, league spokesman. The Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth League has also donated $5,000 to Loudoun County for similar improvements.

“Over the years, the league has been the beneficiary of many generous donations and, when able, we have set aside funds for equipment and facility improvements,” Gant said. “The addition of batting cages at Robinson Park will provide the Town and the League with better training facilities.”

“Combined with our recent installation of a grass infield on the baseball field, the new batting cages at Robinson Park will significantly raise the level of the facilities there,” said Rich Williams, director of the Leesburg Department of Parks and Recreation.  “The Town values the commitment and investments made by organizations like the Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth League.  These partnerships allow the Town to provide a higher quality sports environment for everyone.”

Founded in 1956, the Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth League offers baseball programs for all Loudoun County youth ages 13 to 18.  More information is available at its website.
