Library Exhibit to Showcase New Acquisitions

New Exhibit at Thomas Balch Library spotlighting new additions to archives will open October 3.

The will open a new exhibit on Monday, October 3, as part of a celebration of American Archives Month.

According to Elizabeth Preston, the library’s archive specialist, the exhibit will showcase some of the library’s new acquisitions.

“These are collections that have been processed and made available during the past year,” she said.

Among the collections which the exhibit will showcase are:

  • The Lewis Leigh Collection, which includes files about the 250th Anniversary celebrations of the County of Loudoun and Town of Leesburg in 2007-2008
  • The Lyndon LaRouche Collection, which includes records of the former presidential candidate and Loudoun resident arguing against the Leesburg Garden Club, making controversial remarks against the club and accusing its members of being involved with the Soviet Party
  • The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Membership Card Collection, which includes membership cards from the Loudoun County VFW Post 1177 from 1937 to 1946
  • The John Fletcher Railroad Memorabilia Collection, which includes timetables and other documents relating to the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad and other railroads in Northern Virginia

The exhibit will run through October at the library, which is operated by the Town of Leesburg.  The library is located at 208 West Market Street in downtown Leesburg.
