LTE: Experience, Background Is Key for 33rd Delegate Race

A Mary Daniel supporter explains how she made her choice for the 33rd House of Delegates District

Mary Daniel is clearly the best candidate, and the only moderate in the race for the House of Delegates, 33rd district seat. An accomplished lawyer and town councilor, she has significant experience with law and politics. In contrast, her opponent David LaRock, has no college degree, no previous experience with law or politics, and has faced numerous legal challenges within both his business and personal life.

As a lawyer and town councilor, Daniel has illustrated wise decision-making, based on good judgment and experience. In comparison, LaRock receives considerable support from and has signed pledges to extremist conservative PACs including VA Citizens Defense League, National Association of Gun Rights (who advocate concealed gun carry everywhere, and oppose universal background checks and gun show loopholes), Americans for Tax Reform (Grover Norquist), and FreedomWorks (Koch Brothers), which would force him to vote against any legislation involving tax increases, even if alternative revenues disappear, leaving future generations to deal with resulting deficits. Effective lawmaking involves compromises, and LaRock's pledges would impede legislative progress.

Also very concerning is LaRock changing his campaign platform. For example - in his glossy primary mailers, his main goal was to join Cuccinelli to repeal transportation legislation. LaRock's current campaign makes no mention of this - nor of his support from and pledges to multiple extreme right wing lobbyists, to attempt to attract moderate voters.
