Sound Off: Noise in Downtown Leesburg

Tell us what you think of the town's noise ordinance and proposed changes.

Leesburg's Town Council is reviewing proposed changes to the town's noise ordinance.

The changes will create a "decibel standard" for commercial areas. There would also be new rules about crowd noise — the current standards apply to mechanical noise.

The Washington Post published opinions from several area residents, including David Groy, who recently asked the council, “Would you want, on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, to have someone pick the music you . . . listen to? You want to sit out on your patio or your porch, and that’s what you have to listen to. You have no control over it, none.”

Meanwhile, musician Payson Van Orden noted there is obvious support for the Leesburg music scene. “We are not playing music or performing our art for empty houses," he said.
