Susan Allen Makes Campaign Stop in Leesburg

Wife of former Gov. George Allen tells Republicans she's confident of victory in November.

Susan Allen told supporters at the Loudoun County Republican Committee meeting in Leesburg Monday night that her husband, former Gov. George Allen, is the best candidate for U.S. Senate.

Gov. Allen announced his run for his old Senate seat last year and faces competition from fellow GOP candidates in a primary June 12, and Democratic opponent .

Allen said she had no doubt her husband would win the upcoming race. He has a lot of support in Virginia, she said, and as long as folks continue to sign petitions and stay active with his campaign it will help propel him to a victory in November.

“I think there are a lot of issues on the minds of voters. As you travel around anywhere in Virginia people are concerned about jobs and how we are going to somehow bring jobs back to Virginia,” Allen said.

“People are really concerned about how they’re going to pay their bills with rising gas costs and meanwhile the current administration has not allowed us to use all of our resources that we have here not only in Virginia but across the country,” she said. “George really wants to work on energy as an issue and make sure that we are taking full advantage of the assets that we have here in Virginia.”

A mother of three, Allen said she also remains concerned about the future of her children, the youngest of whom is in eighth grade.

“I worry about our son who’s in college, what jobs will be there for him when he gets out,” she said. “We’ve already seen our oldest child graduate from college. She’s one of the lucky ones and found a job within a few months of graduating but she still has friends without work.

"But, you know, I worry about their future. So I’m hot on the trail because I really believe that George is the man who can ride the ship," Allen said. "He will undo the votes that brought us Obamacare, the votes that have squelched the ability to use our energy resources, and he’s going to make sure that our tax codes are right so that we can be competitive with world economic events and bring jobs back to Virginia.”
