Town Council Approves General Fund Amendment

Council members approved their public hearing agenda, 5-0-2.

Town employees will get an upgraded public safety radio system to meet FCC regulations as part of a supplemental appropriation of $1.852 million that the Leesburg Town Council approved Tuesday evening.

The appropriation will also pay to repave the public works facility parking lot and replace the HVAC systems at Town Hall and Ida Lee Recreation Center. The remainder of the appropriation will pay for other items specific departments need in the coming years.

The council also voted 5-0-2 to defer an ordinance to amend and re-ordain Chapter 34-39 regarding a cross connection and back-flow prevention control program. Umstattd said due to the fact that the council will be taking up the issue of "Utility Shutoffs/Irrigation Fees" during their Nov. 26 worksession, it would make more sense to vote on the item after that discussion.

The purpose of the ordinance is to clarify a fee being added to the section for resumption of water service after discontinuance for failure to comply with the program. With the amendment the fee schedule would be updated in order to be consistent with the program. However, council members wanted more time to discuss the change.

The Town Council will hold their next public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Oct. 8 work session has been cancelled.
